Week One
It's hard to believe that Laura has been with us for a week now. After spending Mon-Thurs in the hospital we came home and reunited our little family. When Will came down from his nap to find us home he was very happy, well, until his eyes caught a glance of his sister. Then he started pouting and tearing up. I am thinking he was hoping she would stay at the hospital. It was a fleeting moment though as we reassured him with some hugs and gave him his present. Laura had thoughtfully brought him a gift. Wasn't that nice of her? :)
Once he opened his new tool box from her she went up several notches in his book. He loved it. Later that evening we did a happy birthday party for her. He loved singing her happy birthday and having a cupcake in her honor. Since then he has gradually gone from tolerating her to voluntarily giving her a hug before he leaves to go somewhere. It's all a work in progress. He doesn't fail to tell us when the baby is crying though. Ha!
Laura is a dream. She is such a sweet little baby. These days she does a lot of sleeping and eating but she also has alert periods where she opens her pretty eyes and looks around taking us all in. Unless she is sound asleep, she always perks up when she hears her brother or Daddy talking. She can have her eyes closed tight and hear one of them and she opens up and looks around for them. Super cute. I have had a lot of fun playing dress up with her and putting her in different outfits. She's just so cute, I can't help it.
Exhaustion. If we thought we were tired the first time around, we were just skimming the surface. Keeping the ever so delicate pendulum between attention for our two year old and care for our newborn is never ending. The lack of sleep at night just magnifies it. We're powering through though and I am forever indebted to my husband and mom for being so generous and selfless the last few days. Recovering from a c-section is no walk in the park so I have been heavily dependent on them for help not just with the kids but for myself too. Every day gets a little better.
