Georgia in July

We got to take one last trip home to Georgia last week before baby girl arrives. Nate had a conference for work in Atlanta, so we made our way down I-95/85 to see family once again and celebrate Will's 2nd birthday with them.

Will was in little boy Heaven at the lake with my family. It was such a treat to watch him explore and play around the lake. He had so much fun on boat rides, swimming in his kid pool, picking blueberries with Nana, going on Mule rides, playing in the big toy room, etc. He has everyone wrapped around his little fingers now that he knows them and calls them by name. All he has to do is say, "Stephen play??" or "Emmy play" and off they go. It was neat to watch his imagination and vocabulary take off while around all these new sights and sounds. We also spent some time in Atlanta and visited with his Daddy's family where he is absolutely infatuated with their dog Buddy. Buddy is an avid fetch player who always exhausts the person throwing the ball long before he's done, but Buddy has met his match in Will. When we do our prayers with Will thanking Jesus for all the people who love him, he always makes sure to add "Shu-shu" (what he calls all dogs but in this instance he's referring to Buddy) to the list.

Like I said above, we decided to celebrate Will's 2nd birthday with our family in Georgia. Last year for his 1st birthday we went all out but this year were trying to have a smaller affair. However, when you invite our immediate family members and their significant others and a few other close family it still ended up being over 20 people. We did a low country boil, thank you to my brother Stephen for doing the cooking, and all just spent time enjoying each other and celebrating Will. He had a blast, even though I'm pretty sure he had no idea the party was for him. He sure enjoyed the attention though. He got some great loot. It was the cutest thing watching him open gifts this year because he wanted to play with each one and not move on to the next. We could have been there all night at that rate. Ha!

Here are some pictures from the trip.

Uncle Stephen gave Will his gift earlier in the week. Will was SO excited about his new basketball goal. He insisted on helping Nate and Stephen put every piece together, in fact he even made Stephen hold him while he took the parts out of the box. It was definitely a hit.

Will with the Emilys

Picking blueberries with Nana. The duck head cane was intended to clear spider webs from the blueberry bushes, but from the moment it was pulled out for the walk to the garden Will claimed it as his own. He carried that thing around for forever.

Boat ride with Nana and Poppa. Will is getting more and more insistent that he should drive the boat without Poppa sitting there. We had a few tantrums about it. Ha! He had a blast pressing the button for the horn though, well, that one and whatever other button he could get his little fingers on.

Bed head. Couldn't help but post it. I'm sure he'll forgive me one day.

Us at his birthday party

Aunt Hilary made this amazing cake and the cupcakes as well. It matched the decor, plates, napkins perfectly. She is so stinking talented and we are so grateful to have her love our little guy enough to do this for him. Did I mention how yummy the cake was too? Seriously. Everyone should have their own Aunt Hilary...but you can't have ours.

Will so enjoyed this moment. We were all singing, the much coveted cake was coming towards him and there was a firetruck on the cake. Does it get better then that? I don't think so. This year he even blew on the candles when we told him to after the song was over. Cutest thing ever, although we had to help him get them out.

Walking around with Grammy and the firetruck balloon she got him.

My cousin and his family drove up from South Georgia. Will loves playing with his little cousins and I enjoy spending time with my cousins so it was a win-win for all. :)

On our drive back home to Virginia we stopped in Charlotte to have lunch with our good friends who moved there over a year ago. You may remember Will's friend Conner from past blog entries. He was Will's first baby friend. Here is a picture of the boys at Cracker Barrel.
